Fine Art- Urban Landscapes in oil- including en plein air "Summer in the City" and "Imagining Evanston" Series (Museum Canvas Prints & Consignment available)

"These images serve as a historical account of the Howard Corridor into Southeast Evanston. I challenge myself to “re-imagine” the urban landscape forcing an aggressive 2-point perspective, choosing a “retro” inspired palette to block in the shapes and employing turn-of the century glazing techniques to draw out the sense of warmth and shadow."

Lost Era: Howard Street 2020

Lost Era: Howard Street 2020

SOLD As Fall wanes to the coming Winter the early morning sun warms this corner of Howard Street on Chicago's North-side. Struck by the isolation of this once lively urban landscape I captured the warmth and long shadows of the mid-morning sun in warm values and cool glazes. The rendering of the clock and the namesake antique store (est.1968) housed in this turn of the century building stand as a testament to a "Lost Era". 12 x 16 Oil on Gessobord

SOLD Afternoon sun lights up this heritage building in Evanston's South side. I was struck by the detail on the façade of this turn-of-the-century building which has been the home of many businesses serving our community since the 1900's. The late afternoon shadows help to define the historic columns and Steer bust which originally heralded the local Butcher. This long-standing Greek Restaurant on Chicago Avenue in Evanston's South Side i

Timeless: Newsstand Chicago & Main12x12Oil

SOLD I captured this everyday scene during the Winter of 2020. While businesses in the area struggled to stay open, I chose this setting to mark the strength and resolve of area owners to survive. As a Newsstand, this business has remained an anchor to the Main Street Community in Evanston, Illinois since the 1930s. I used a “retro" color palette and muted values to convey the timeless quality of this image. By painting only shapes beyond the window and using warm glazing

The Fish Keg

The Fish Keg

SOLD Another 3rd generation Family-owned business, the Fish Keg has been serving no-frills faire the Edgewater and Evanston Community since 1951. I wanted to capture that 50’s sensibility in the aqua tint of the weathered sign in sunlight. The bold Winter Sun also plays off the West-facing façade while a pedestrian pulling a suitcase passes down the darkened sidewalk toward the Howard “L” station.

Chicago Ave- 12/2020

Chicago Ave- 12/2020

SOLD When I first moved to Evanston, the Coronet Theatre stood between what is now Sketchbook Brewing and Campagnola Restaurant and so I painted the marquee and entrance into the underpainting for this scene but brought forward only the current day view. I loosely painted an artist facing the street, probably sketching and enjoying Southeast Evanston’s local brewery.

Should we get something for morning : Bennisones

Should we get something for morning : Bennisones

SOLD Turning West onto Church Street at 4 PM one evening I was caught in the magic of Bennison’s marquee, the warmth of the color in the windows and the number of people still queuing to get inside before they close despite the damp cold of the closing winter night. As an artist I was challenged to see if I could capture that feeling. Bennison’s has been a Northshore institution since 1938. Purchased from the original owner in 1967, the family business is now staffed by its third generation
